Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns over renewed terrorist attacks in northeastern Nigeria. He warned that the violence could weaken public trust in government.
In a post on his verified X account, Atiku said he felt “very sad” about the latest attacks in Borno State. He pointed to the return of suicide bombings, which had reduced in recent years.
He added that the recent killings of civilians and soldiers bring back memories of 2014, when the insurgency was at its peak.
While praising Nigerian troops, Atiku urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the country’s security strategy.
He said the renewed attacks could weaken confidence in the government’s ability to protect lives.
Atiku stressed that Nigerians want results, not just statements.
“Results speak louder than tough government rhetoric,” he said.

He accused the administration of focusing more on politics than security. According to him, leaders must treat insecurity as a top priority.
He also warned against dismissing criticism as politics, noting that terrorism affects everyone.
Atiku highlighted the suffering of residents in Maiduguri. He said grieving families want accountability, not speeches.
He questioned the timing of the President’s foreign trips. He said soldiers are still fighting with poor equipment.
He also mentioned the President’s visit to the United Kingdom, urging global attention to Nigeria’s security crisis.
Atiku warned that any government that ignores rising deaths risks losing moral authority.
“You cannot campaign for 2027 on the graves of people you failed to protect in 2026,” he said.
