The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the appeal by the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The court upheld the Federal High Court’s ruling that barred the party from holding its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025.

The Ibadan convention had elected Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as National Chairman. But the court said the PDP had not held valid state congresses and failed to notify INEC properly. The judges ruled that these failures violated the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act, and party regulations.

The Turaki faction had argued that the matter was internal and outside judicial oversight. The appellate court rejected this argument, saying courts can intervene when legal rules and electoral laws are ignored.

The judges also awarded ₦2 million in costs against the Turaki-led faction for pursuing an unmeritorious appeal.

The ruling leaves the PDP in a leadership dispute. Rival factions remain divided, and party leaders must now decide the next steps. Observers say the judgment could affect the party’s preparations for future elections.
