The All Progressives Congress (APC) held its North-East Zonal Congress in Gombe State, where party leaders adopted consensus candidates to steer the region for the next four years.
The event drew key political figures from across the zone. Notably, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya joined fellow governors and stakeholders to oversee the process.
Welcoming delegates, Governor Mai Mala Buni, who serves as APC North-East Zonal Coordinator, described the region as a stronghold of the party.
According to him, five of the six governors in the zone are APC members.
“The North-East zone is a major stakeholder in the life of the APC,” he said.
He further pointed to ongoing defections as evidence of the party’s growing strength. He also urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, Congress Chairman Simon Ngwan confirmed that leaders agreed on consensus candidates.
Former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan moved the motion, while House of Representatives Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo seconded it.
In addition, Senator Ali Ndume moved a motion to endorse the list. Mohammed Dantata Ndus seconded it, and delegates backed it overwhelmingly.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri praised the peaceful conduct of the congress.
He encouraged members to stay committed to the party’s vision and to strengthen collaboration ahead of future elections.
Similarly, outgoing North-East National Vice Chairman Mustapha Salihu expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure. He also pledged continued loyalty to the party.
Following the exercise, Governor Inuwa Yahaya congratulated the newly elected leaders. He specifically praised Nitte Amangal and Lumbi Abubakar for their competence.
He also called for unity, inclusiveness, and stronger collaboration within the party.
