The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has taken over the criminal case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against senior lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
The takeover halted Ozekhome’s planned arraignment before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on a three-count charge, including allegations of forgery.
At the court session, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), informed the court that the AGF was exercising his powers under Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to take over the matter.
Counsel for the ICPC did not oppose the move. Similarly, Ozekhome’s defence team, led by former AGF Kanu Agabi (SAN) and comprising 15 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, raised no objection.
Justice Peter Kekemeke subsequently adjourned the case till February 24 for arraignment.
