Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have called for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan.

The opposition figures accused the Commission of taking sides with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They said the current leadership of INEC cannot be trusted to conduct credible elections in 2027.

The ADC also announced that it will proceed with its internal programmes.

According to the party, there is no legal requirement mandating INEC’s presence at its activities.

The leaders further called on the international community to monitor developments.

They referenced INEC’s actions on April 1 as a basis for concern.

ADC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend democratic principles.

The party warned against any attempt to impose a one-party system in the country.

The development adds to rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
