The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, Dr. Moses Paul, has rejected the outcome of the February 21, 2026, poll, alleging widespread irregularities and calling for a thorough investigation.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Dr. Paul accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of disregarding the will of the people, insisting that the declared results did not reflect the true mandate of voters.
He said, despite the official announcement, his campaign remained confident that it had secured the support of residents across several communities, including Karshi, Wuse, Nyanya, and Gui.
The ADC candidate alleged that the election was marred by multiple violations, including movement restrictions, intimidation of party members, vote-buying, and the late arrival of election materials in key polling units, such as Kabusa.
Dr. Paul also raised concerns over the alleged alteration of polling unit results and the death of a supporter, Musa Abubakar, at the Gwagwa polling unit while attempting to defend his vote. He disclosed that he had visited the deceased’s family and pledged educational support for his children, while urging authorities to investigate the incident and ensure justice.
He warned that such developments could undermine public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing that electoral integrity must be protected.
Despite his rejection of the results, Dr. Paul expressed gratitude to his supporters, describing the movement behind his candidacy as one driven by conviction and sacrifice rather than political ambition alone.
He encouraged residents to remain hopeful and committed to democratic values, stating that the struggle for accountable leadership and a better AMAC would continue.
The AMAC chairmanship election is one of the key local government polls in the Federal Capital Territory, often seen as critical to grassroots governance in Abuja.
