The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the APC-dominated National Assembly of deliberate delay tactics in the passage of the 2025 Electoral Bill.
The party said the slow process could affect electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC expressed concern over what it described as continued prevarications by the legislature.
Stating that the delay raises suspicions that key amendments meant to strengthen the electoral process are being stalled.
In addition, the ADC noted that some proposed amendments introduce new compliance and eligibility requirements for political parties.
It warned that inadequate time to study and implement the changes could create challenges for parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, unclear guidelines could create avoidable legal and administrative risks. It added that such gaps may also hinder INEC’s ability to issue timely and effective regulations.
Also, the ADC further cited the provision requiring INEC to publish election notices at least 360 days before the general election.
It said the timeline leaves limited room for preparation if the bill is not passed promptly.
The party called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the bill. It warned that further delays could undermine public confidence in the 2027 elections.
Likewise, the ADC also urged civil society groups, international partners, and other political parties to pressure the legislature to act swiftly. It said Nigeria cannot afford another election cycle without critical electoral safeguards.
