A social media activist has called for the release of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, describing his continued detention as unjust.

The activist, Sule Yau Tariwa, said that although he had previously criticised El-Rufai’s leadership style while he served as governor, the former governor still deserves fair treatment under the law.

According to Tariwa, political disagreements should not prevent citizens from speaking out when they believe injustice has occurred.

He stated that El-Rufai had faced criticism during his time in office over issues involving opposition groups, civil servants and political activists.

However, he argued that the principle of justice should apply to everyone regardless of political history.

He also said the prolonged detention of the former governor raises concerns about fairness and due process.

The activist suggested that some of the charges against El-Rufai could be politically motivated, urging authorities to ensure transparency in the legal process.

He also emphasised the need for political tolerance in a democratic system.

According to him, opposition voices and criticism are part of a healthy democracy and should not automatically lead to punitive actions.

He further appealed for compassion during the Ramadan period, noting that El-Rufai has family members and supporters affected by the situation.

Tariwa urged authorities to allow the former governor return home while legal processes continue.
