The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to accredit 1,039 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The move is part of JAMB’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the integrity, efficiency and credibility of the UTME while expanding access for candidates nationwide.

According to the examination body, the accreditation exercise will ensure that only centres that meet approved technical, security and operational standards are allowed to conduct the 2026 UTME.

Why JAMB Is Accrediting New CBT Centres

JAMB said the accreditation of 1,039 CBT centres is aimed at:
• reducing overcrowding during examinations,
• improving candidate comfort and safety,
• ensuring uniform examination standards,
• and curbing examination malpractice through enhanced monitoring.

The board noted that JAMB CBT centres, 2026 UTME, JAMB accreditation, and computer-based examination in Nigeria reflect the growing public interest in examination reforms.

JAMB explained that centres seeking accreditation must meet strict requirements, including:
• functional computers with standard specifications,
• reliable internet connectivity and power supply,
• CCTV surveillance systems,
• biometric verification facilities,
• and compliance with JAMB’s operational guidelines.

Centres that fail to meet these standards will either be denied accreditation or delisted if previously approved.

Education stakeholders say the accreditation of additional CBT centres will significantly improve the 2026 UTME experience for candidates by shortening travel distances and reducing logistical challenges.

Parents and candidates have also welcomed the move, saying it could help minimise late arrivals, technical disruptions and security concerns during examinations.

Over the years, JAMB has intensified reforms aimed at enhancing transparency in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process. These include biometric verification, real-time monitoring of CBT centres, and sanctions against centres involved in malpractice.

The board reiterated its commitment to conducting a credible, fair and hitch-free 2026 UTME, warning CBT operators to strictly adhere to approved standards.

The planned accreditation of 1,039 CBT centres for the 2026 UTME marks another step in JAMB’s efforts to modernise Nigeria’s examination system. As preparations intensify, candidates and stakeholders are urged to rely only on officially accredited centres for registration and examination.
