Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of attempting to destabilize Nigeria following statements attributed to the American leader threatening possible military action over alleged persecution of Christians in the country.

In a statement shared on his official social media page, Fani-Kayode described Trump’s comments as “provocative and dangerous,” warning that such rhetoric could push Nigeria toward instability.

The former minister said no foreign power has the right to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs under the pretext of religious protection, alleging that similar interventions in other nations had led to chaos.

Fani-Kayode referenced the U.S. invasions of Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan, arguing that such actions often “leave nations more divided and insecure than before.” He also alleged that external interests might be seeking to exploit Nigeria’s internal divisions to gain access to its natural resources.

He urged the Nigerian government and citizens to remain united in the face of what he described as “foreign provocation,” emphasizing that both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria have been victims of terrorist attacks over the years.

“The Nigerian people must not allow themselves to be divided along religious lines,” he said, adding that security challenges in the country should be addressed internally through national unity and strong leadership.

Fani-Kayode’s comments follow days of controversy after President Trump reportedly categorized Nigeria as “a country of particular concern,” citing alleged religious persecution and insecurity. The White House has not yet released an official statement on whether military action is being considered.

The Nigerian government has also not issued an official response to Fani-Kayode’s remarks.
