In a powerful message of peace and togetherness, the Al-Ahfad Masjid (Mosque) in the Nassarawo area of Gombe capital opened its doors to Christian neighbours for a shared Ramadan iftar dinner.

Muslim and Christian clerics gathered at sunset to break the Muslim fast together, a gesture aimed at strengthening religious harmony and mutual understanding in the community.

The Chief Imam, Dr Umar Dokaji, explained that the event came at a unique time when both Muslims and Christians are observing their respective fasting periods, making the shared iftar an opportunity to unite people across faiths.

Dr Dokaji highlighted that Nigeria is facing challenges linked to religious and ethnic intolerance, saying initiatives like this help build trust and prevent conflict.

He also prayed for the nation’s peace and urged support for vulnerable groups, stressing that justice and unity are key to overcoming national tensions.

Invited Christian clergymen expressed deep appreciation for the invitation, calling it a symbol of mutual respect and tolerance.

One speaker, Reverend Abare Kalla, recalled a time when Christians and Muslims peacefully resolved a local disagreement over a place of worship, a moment he said he’ll be proud of forever.

The interfaith iftar in Gombe stands as a beacon of unity, showing that even amidst differences in belief, communities can choose peace, friendship, and respect.
