The future of Nigeria’s North-East region took centre stage as young innovators showcased groundbreaking ideas and inventions at the North-East Festival of Literature, Culture, Creativity, and Sciences (NEFLiCCS) held in Gombe State.
The event, organised by the Halimafactor Community Initiative, brought together students from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the region to present practical solutions to local challenges in agriculture, energy, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, Professor Isa Ali Pantami described the students as “young geniuses,” noting that the region is blessed with creative minds capable of transforming society through innovation.
He explained that platforms like NEFLiCCS go beyond exhibition and serve as tools for leadership development and empowerment. According to him, giving young people the opportunity to present and defend their ideas builds confidence and prepares them for future leadership roles.
Pantami further noted that many of the projects displayed were designed to address real-life community problems, demonstrating the students’ ability to apply their knowledge to address pressing societal needs.
He added that the gathering also encouraged collaboration among participants, as students interacted, shared ideas, and drew inspiration from one another, strengthening unity and healthy competition within the North-East.
The festival highlighted the growing importance of investing in youth-driven innovation, with stakeholders expressing optimism that such initiatives will help shape a more prosperous and technologically advanced future for the region and Nigeria at large.
Participants and organisers alike expressed hope that continued support for science, creativity, and education would unlock the vast potential of young people and position the North-East as a hub of innovation.
