Seven people have lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Damaturu–Damagum Road at Gaggaba village in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, saying the crash occurred at about 1:20pm.

According to Dungus, the accident involved a DAF trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the Mitsubishi Canter, allegedly driven at excessive speed, veered off its lane and rammed into the oncoming DAF trailer at Gaggaba village,” Abdulkarim stated.

The police spokesman said all seven victims died at the scene of the accident, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

While sympathising with the families of the deceased, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Emmanuel Ado, expressed concern over the increasing rate of road traffic accidents in the state.

He noted that road crashes claimed about 120 lives across Yobe State in 2025, and called on motorists, transport unions, and other stakeholders to work collectively to promote road safety and reduce avoidable loss of lives.
